Jaipur: The state experienced an unusual heatwave for 21 days in May this year, according to the Jaipur Met office. Typically, heatwave conditions prevail from a week to 10 days, but this year’s summer season saw heatwave conditions lasting for at least 21 days. Although an unusual rise in maximum temperatures was witnessed in 2019, the duration heatwave was lengthy this year.

Radhey Shyam Sharma, director of the Met office, said on Monday, “Usually during summers, there is a duration of heatwave for seven days, followed by a dust storm or rainfall. But this year, heatwave conditions were witnessed for 21 consecutive days.” On Monday, heatwave conditions revived at many places in the state. The Met office said that in the coming days, severe heatwave would be witnessed in western Rajasthan. Sriganganagar remained hottest in the state, with a maximum temperature of 46.5 degrees Celsius.
